1st Meeting - Poland

From 30th September till 03rd October we took part in the first international meeting in our project. We met in Krakow in Poland to plan our work in the project.

We start the meeting with short presentations of the partner organizations.

Then we had a presentation about memory made by Basia and then discussed about memory models and theories, our knowledge, opinions and stereotypes concerning memory in later life. In the discussion support us prof. Vetulani – well know polish neuroscientist.

During next days we plan in details our activities in the project and decide how to share tasks and responsibilities  We discussed about local activities and the way in which we would like to work with our students and teachers. We decide what will be the next step in the project – we will be working on private methods and hidden knowledge about memory.

During meeting we had also chance to take part in some outdoor memory activities - in Kazimierz – Jewish District:

Aims and objectives

The Memory in Later Life project explored many aspects of memory including personal strategies, mnemonic techniques, and exercises involving autobiographical memories and aesthetic experiences. It also looked at the importance of attitudes and beliefs, and lifestyle factors such as exercise, diet, leisure activities, enjoyment and a good social life. The latest findings from neuroscience reinforce the notion that a range of activities are vital for older adults to maintain memory skills and promote a healthy brain.

Many ideas from the project can be incorporated into learning in later life programmes to increase knowledge about memory changes over time and help older adults use their memories well. The outcome of the project is a handbook of the most useful activities and ideas chosen by the older adults participating in the project. This handbook will be available on this site shortly.

The materials archived here are a selection of documents from partner meetings - presentations, worksheets and papers that have been produced as the project progressed. These may be useful to teachers and trainers to supplement the handbook.
